One more workout at the gym and then I think I will be ready for the NBTS walk on Saturday at Golden Gate Park. Hoping for the same bright skies as last Spring. Here's how Bob Fritz, fellow BT caretaker, described last year's walk:
"2059 walkers enjoyed cool, clear skies and a lot of laughter. About 15% of were in blue T-shirts meaning BT survivors. The ones in white shirts are supporters. We raised almost a half-million bucks for the National Brain Tumor Society. Many groups came as a team with theme apparel; one group had a large piece of toast (foam) as a hat -- a bit of joke re. the power of the radiation, I suppose. Another group wore bright yellow shirts in support of Hanna. The shirts said Hanna's bananas! In the picture (will try to post) I'm sitting with Victor Valdez. He's one of the at-the-end-of-the-curve guys. He's been battling this since 1987, but there were a couple of under ten-year olds being carried by parents, too!
Next year I want to have a group shirt saying "What's the Next Step?" on it. It's been my mantra through this and so far it's gotten me through the low spots -- the next step might be lunch or something in the shop, but it's rarely something dreadful. So, as Li says, 'Don't borrow worries from the future, just look for the next step. That's my angel."
Well, you can check out Bob's book, "What's the Next Step?" at tinyurl.com/whats-next-step published right before he passed away.
We didn't get the t-shirts quite ready for this year, but when they're done, we're planning on wearing them for a long time.
