Home Modifications

This week we’ll be highlighting information and resources on home
modifications. Brain tumor patients are at an increased risk for injury from falls. The level of risk is dependent on factors such as the location of the brain tumor, treatments received, as well as one's age and
overall health status. As a result, some changes may need to
be made in the home environment to reduce risk of injury and maximize
comfort. Examples of home modifications include securing rugs, adding
assistive devices such as hand rails and stools in the shower, and
improving lighting throughout the home. Stay tuned this week for
resources and information on safety in the home!

During rehab, I had to add two sturdy grab bars at the top of the stairs to aid me in going from the bedroom to the bathroom. The therapists had to check the shower for any safety issues. I had to do the hand grab along the counters for a while and place a chair behind me when I shaved.

Thanks for sharing your home mod examples with us Steven5! The grab bars are excellent assistive devices to have in the home.
