Hello everyone, I'm am so very glad that I found this site! found out that i have a pituitary brain tumor about a year ago. Ive been going into the dr. for different reasons since 2003 and finally they put everything together and had me tested. Shortly after I found out, and had plans for treatment after i saw the endo..., my family moved to korea. (army family) I feel as though Im getting the complete run around here. Doesn't really seem like anyone wants to help or for that matter seems very knowledgeable about the tumors. I just keep hearing, that they want to watch it as long as its not affecting my vision too badly. I'm very frustrated with this because I feel as though my fatigue, lack of sleep, dizzy spells, and weight gain, and so on... ( I can go on and on) is of no concern. Even though I run and exercise everyday and eat between 900-1200 cal. a day, I continue to gain weight. what gives? I would also love to get a few nights of sleep once in a while so that I can have energy to do what I need and want to do.
well Im rambling a bit due to frustration and the fact that I've had no one to speak to about this that has the same thing.
thanks for listening and I hope to hear from some of you soon! any advice etc. etc. would be appreciated.

My older brother had successful treatment of an acousitic neuroma three years ago (Gamma Knife). After my brother's experience, and as a preventive effort to rule-out occult anyeurisms (my uncle survived a brain aneuryism two decades ago), I had a screening brain MRI done at Cleveland Clinic. All was negative. Several weeks ago I had my yearly bloodwork done. I had mentioned to my PCP that I had trouble lossing weight (currently 186lb). I have been on citalopram for many years which has counter-balanced my reactivity to my wife's ongoing battle with post-partum depression. I am also on Dovonex for psoriasis. My PCP requested a testosterone level along with the other tests. The rest of my bloodwork looked great. But my testosterone was very low. This surprised me because, with the exception of general tiredness (which I have always attributed to being a 44 year old guy with three kids under the age of 12 and running two bussinesses) I have none of the symptoms. I was referred to an endocrinoligist. The endocrine doctor's office schedules their first appointment with a PA. I have always been impressed with the PA's I have encountered, and this was no exception. We spent a long time discussing my history and the diagnostic process. We did bloodwork including re-testing testosterone(s), DHEA, binding proteins, Prolactin, LH, FSH, TSH, and thyroids. All my testosterones are very low...again a surprise since I have none of the symptoms. My LH is low and my FSH is low normal. I interperet that my thyroid and TSH are low-normal...but the endocrine DR and PAS feel they are OK. The endocrinologist recommended a pituitary MRI. Naturally I know that the rule-out is a tumor of the Pituitary or Hypothalamus. My 4 year old boy was already scheduled to have a heart murmur checked at Clevland Clinic next week...so I have scheduled my MRI at the Clevland Clinic the same day since they have my past MRI for comparison (hopefully it captured the pituitary and hypothalamus). And I figured that if the tests are positive I'm better off being at a referral center that has a strong endocrine team, neurosurgery team, and oncology team. My research indicates that my citalopram and dovonex are not at play in reducing my testosterone, LH, and FSH. The endocrine office has prescribed a topical testosterone. Before starting it I asked to have a GnRH, Estrogen (3 subtypes), and PSA test performed...blood was drawn today. Next friday is my MRI.

I am very proactive with my research and health...I am interested in any suggestions for further tests that should be done that I have not already secured as described above.

I am successfully living with a benign Pituitary tumor and doing quite well at this time. However, I'm also in early menopause..having the two things going on at the same time has been tricky. While my memory is as good as it ever was, meaning it's normal to better than average, I'm having issues with constant bloating that is excessive, insomnia, mood swings that can be quite bad (I have to pretend things are fine to make it though the day with these symptoms sometimes) but the gyn and the endo seem to take turns in not wanting to address what the proper treatment is or what the issue is ...related to the tumor or just menopause causing these things. Mary, if you have an opinion, I'd love to hear about it. I hope you're well and continue the great work you've been doing so many years now.

Hi, I'm new here, but had my pituitary brain tumor removed at age nine (I am now in my thirties). I notice people have less symptoms than i do, i guess because of the new technology. MRIs were still new when i had it done and the test took three hours! it was taken out through my skull and i lost my pituitary gland and some vision, so i can't drive. i am on total hormone therapy and take hgh. Tiredness is always a problem and getting sick alot. I did have some memory loss, but regained some of it gradually. if anyone has any information on new research, it would be appreciated.

I had surgery November 2009. I am still tired all the time. I cannot make myself do the things I did before. I have gained weight plus I am craving things now to eat. My memory is not the same. How long does it take to get back to normal? I had a MRI that shown the tumor was all gone after the surgery, but there is something else there now. I am to have another MRI in 6 months to make sure it is not growing. Can anyone tell me about this and the way I feel all the time?
