My.BrainTumorCommunity.Org is a place to get connected with people like you. We’ve created this space specifically for people affected by brain tumors. It’s a place to ask a question, lend support, build friendships and interact with others.

Here are a few items to help you get started:

Register!
Click on the blue “Community” button and click where it says “Register now”. Complete the registration form and click “Submit”. You will then receive an email that contains your username and password (please keep this for your records). Follow the instructions to log in and start interacting with others in the community!

Create a Profile!
Your profile allows you to share information about yourself with others. To access your profile, go to your “My Stuff” page and click on “Profile” in the menu on the left (about halfway down). This will take you to the “Profile Info” page, where you can choose a screenname and fill out as much or as little as you would like. You can control who sees your profile by clicking on “Account Settings” at the top of the page. By default, profiles are marked as “Public” when you first sign up.

Explore!
You’re all set. Take some time to explore the community. Here are some things you might find of interest:

  • NBTS HQ Blog – The "Headquarters Blog" button takes you to the official NBTS blog, written by Patient Services staff. We created this blog to share information about topics that are important to you. Each week, we’ll focus on a new topic and feature stories from patients and caregivers, Q&A articles with health professionals, cool resources we want to share, and more. Feel free to leave a comment on the blog – we want to hear from you!

  • Discussion Forums – The “Discuss” button will take you to our Discussion Forums (also known as message boards). Discussion Forums are a space where you can read, post, and reply to messages and questions from other users. Post a question, offer a suggestion, or get the conversation started about something that you care about!

  • My Stuff Extras – The “My Stuff” page is your home base for managing your profile, your blog, and your connections to others (messages, friends, groups, etc.). Change your profile or upload photos. Create your own blog and send the link to people you know. Invite others to join the community or send them a friend request. This is your space!

As you explore the site, feel free to refer to our list of Frequently Asked Questions for additional details.

Tell us what you think!
This is YOUR community, and we want to hear from you. We invite you to email us at info@braintumor.org with your questions, comments, and suggestions. We look forward to your feedback!

Check out this list of frequently asked questions for help with using different features on My.BrainTumorCommunity.Org.

What do the different privacy settings mean?
  • Public – This means that all your content is available to everyone who visits My.BrainTumorCommunity.Org, and will appear in search results. The information that is available includes your profile, profile photo, blog, friends, and groups.
  • Friends Only – This means that your profile is only available to people you have approved as Friends. Your username and avatar will still appear in search results, but people will not be able to see details of your profile unless they are your friends.
  • Private – This means that all the information you enter is viewable only to you. Your username and profile picture will not appear in search results, your profile will not be visible to others, and you will not be listed among the members for groups you have joined.

How do I create a blog?
To create a blog, go to your “My Stuff” page and click on “Blogs” in the menu on the left (near the bottom). Click on “Create your blog now!” and enter a short description. Use the menu on the left to create entries, manage comments, and designate settings.

What is a bulletin?
A bulletin is a mass message that goes out to everybody in your “My Friends” list. It is a useful tool to announce something to all your friends at once, like your new blog or updates about your latest doctor visit.

How do I send a message to someone?
The first step is to find the person in the community. You can then go to their profile and click on “Send [NAME] a message” from the menu on the top right. You can also go to your "My Stuff" page and click "Find friends" in your Friends List. When you see the person's screenname, click on 'Send a message".

How do I search for other members?
From the Community page, look for the Featured Members box and click on the link that says “All Members”. You can use the search bar or scroll through the pages to see other members in the community.

How do I post on the Discussion Forums?
The Discussion Forums (also known as message boards) provide a space to read, post, and reply to messages and questions from other users. Each of the different Discussion Forums represents a different subject area. Go to the Forum that you're interested in. You will find topics that are currently being discussed. To introduce a new discussion topic, click on “Post a Topic” . To jump in on a discussion, click on the topic and hit the “Reply” button which appears at the end of each post.

Why aren't my photos appearing?
Photos must be approved by an NBTS administrator before appearing on the site. There may be a delay of up to 1 business day before approved photos will appear.

Why don’t I see the changes that I made?
Try refreshing your page. If your changes still do not appear, try waiting a few minutes and then refreshing the page again. It sometimes takes a few minutes for changes to be updated throughout the site. If you continue to experience long delays, please contact tech_support@braintumor.org.
