What’s the best online brain training? Your advice?
    By http://johnstumor.blogspot.com/
I’ve been a big fan of Lumosity and recently bought Block Builders to help with my spatial relations, but maybe there’s something better.  I have an occupational therapy assessment drivers assessment tomorrow and assume I will need to work on my spatial relations and scanning.

I read the AARP column that lists five different online programs and am wondering if anybody’s used these and, if so, what do you think? Good? Bad? Waste of time and $$$? (Given the cost of these its more $$$ than ¢¢¢)

    Here’s the list from AARP:
    1. MindSparke - http://www.mindsparke.com/
    2. Lumosity - http://www.lumosity.com/
    3. PositScience - http://www.positscience.com/
    4. Cogmed - http://www.cogmed.com/
    5. NeuroActive - http://neuroactive.ca/EN/

Here’s a link to the AARP article: http://www.aarp.org/health/brain-health/info-12-2011/brain-games.html

PS - I don't think I've already posted this, I looked and couldn't find it, but if I have please forgive me.

    Hi John,

How did the driver's test go?

I'm only familiar with Lumosity and PositScience.  Currently I 'play' once a while whenever Lumosity sends me 'sample' games.  They are a lot of fun,  and I do find it helpful with my eye-hand coordination.

However, the most helpful thing during my recovery from brain surgeries (head injuries :) has been physical exercises.  Everytime I walk (or other 'physical activities), I feel I become a little 'smarter'.  I now try to stay busy - reading, communicating on the Internet, light exercise at home, walking... etc.

I also had gone back to school whenever I'd lost my job after a surgery - started with non-credit beginning Spanish and advanced to the Intermediate level.  I took some review courses on Algebra - again, started with a non-credit math 101 in the community college.  Then some English composition  courses - just trying to use different parts of my brain.

Worked as a student worker - paid rehab :) before I got back to my previous professional field.  All the above are things in the past (1990-2008)  That's why I have time to 'play' the games sent by Lumosity.

    Hope this helps.
