Caregivers Family and Friends
My husband diagnosed with SCLC two years ago this Dec., now as of June, 2011 diagnosed with what the docs believe to be brain metastases. I've been searching the web to try to figure out how these folks fit in with folks that know what type of tumor they have. He did not get a biopsy; was given little information and more or less rushed through whole brain radiation. Now going on four months following that, suffers from many symptoms - motor weakness, loss of appetite, significant hearing loss, visual loss, changes in personality and forgetfulness. I guess they felt it was important to treat the lesion as quickly as possible. Surgery was dismissed, though it is in the right temporal lobe and I believe could have been resected. He is now awaiting F/U MRI in December as the last one showed no change in the lesion from the WBR. I believe they want to perform stereotactic radiosurgery and he's worried about future side effects. The radiation oncologist isn't sure now if this is a metastasis or a primary site and therefore we cannot distinguish where we fit in, in the brain tumor group. Life has changed drastically...it feels like a jail sentence sometimes. I wonder why folks in this group aren't venting a bit more more regularly. It's good to know you're not alone in this never-ending fight. We just kind of take it day by day. He is a Vietnam vet and tomorrow being Veterans Day, well would like to pass out many thanks for all the veterans who gave up their freedom to protect ours....God bless....
